Billie (Bill) Lee Pitts passed away May 11, 2026 in Lawton, OK.

Bill was born near Castleton, KS on Jan 7, 1934 to Delbert and Mazie Pitts. Bill grew up in Hutchinson, KS and Enid, OK before graduating with a BA in teaching from Northwestern State College in Alva, OK. He taught for six years in public schools. In 1964 through 1974 Bill was the Museum Curator of Northwestern State College. From 1974 through 1983 he was the Director/Curator of the Santa Fe Trail Center, Larned, KS. In 1983 through 1997 Bill was the Director of the State Museum of History of the Oklahoma Historical Society in Oklahoma City, OK. Retiring in 1997 he moved to Lawton, OK becoming involved in various organizations.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents and brother Donald R.

Pitts.



He is survived by sister Lois M. Otwell, Kansas City, MO and brothers Ira J. Pitts and Phillip D. Pitts, Oklahoma City, OK.
