Celebrating the life of Cathy Hicks-Davis. 

Cathy passed away July 18, 2026. She was surrounded by those she loved most and is now resting peacefully in the arms of Jesus. We cherish our memories with her and miss her deeply but are glad she is in a better place. She is survived by her father: Marion Hicks, her children; Sharon Dunlap, (Johnny Dunlap), Daniel Musick, (Janie Musick), and Bobby Callaway, (Lori Callaway), and her grandchildren: Caiti Dunlap, Jackson Callaway, Madelyn Callaway, Lola Callaway, Nathan Davis, Allison Musick, and Ryan Musick. We will be announcing a memorial for her here and on Facebook.

Cathy was born in Sweetwater, Texas to Annie and Marion Hicks on March 25, 1959. One of 8 kids she had 4 brothers: Lonnie, Danny, Ricky, and Johnny, and 3 Sisters: Dena, Jeannie, and Carolyn. She had a love for reading and learning at an early age. She completed an Associates in Arts and Business and a Bachelors in Psychology and eventually earned her Master's Degree in Organizational Management. She was a bookkeeper for Kelly Moore Paint Co for most of her professional career. She was also a writer and wrote articles for religious periodicals. She was a published author and prize winner in poetry. Through her writing she touched many lives.

She had diverse interest, from science and medicine to science fiction shows on TV. She loved "Star Trek" and the show "Tiny Shiny Homes". She enjoyed "Little House on the Prairie" and would often cry during the episode with more emotional story lines. Cathy also liked to draw and sing.

Her favorite season was Christmas season, and it lasted all year. She would always have a little Christmas tree decorated in her house. She loved the lights and would look at them and say, "They're just so pretty!"

Cathy loved people and people loved her. She had genuine love for others that was apparent in how she lived life. She had extraordinary empathy for others and loved animals. She loved her furry little friends so much she treated them like people. If she had it to give it was yours without attachment or condition. 

She loved to give gifts and loved greeting cards. We loved getting cards from her because they were always thoughtful and her handwriting was beautiful. At Christmas she could hardly wait to give presents and often would coax you into opening it early. "Do you want it now?", she would say.

There is so much more that could be said about our dearest Mom, Daughter, Sister, & Friend, but we will just leave you with this: she fought her way through this life struggles with a deep love for Jesus, dignity, and kindness. She was so sweet and warm, and the size of the universe is not large enough to measure how much she will be missed.

If you knew her please take time to experience something she loved: donate money to someone in need, adopt a pet, watch the animated version of Disney's "Beauty and the Beast", eat some chocolate, or a Chick-Fil-A sandwich, send someone a sweet Hallmark card and some stationary, call a friend who is hurting and needs someone to talk to, tell your kids and parents you love them, pray for someone hurting, and put up some Christmas lights or decorate the whole house, and you will be honoring her memory.

I Wish

I wish I were a star above

Looking down upon the earth

If I could, I would twinkle bright

To light up land and earth

I wish I were the air around

To touch creation near

To hear the sighs and feel the breath

Of all those far and near

I wish I were the water in the sea

To float with ship and sail

To splash the beach and whip the wind

And quench the thirst of all I can

I wish I were a tiny baby

Looking up into my mother's eyes

To see the tears foam up and smile

The love in her heart to feel a while
